The planning application for this wind farm was submitted to Allerdale Borough Council in December 2009. The Council’s Planning Officer recommended refusal:-
     Planning Officer’s report
The Allerdale Development Panel refused planning permission on 24 February 2011 and the applicant appealed in July of that year. There was no Public Inquiry; the Appeal being considered on the basis of written representations. Following a site visit by the appointed Planning Inspector in November, the Appeal was dismissed on 23 December 2011.

The Inspector’s decision letter explains the reasons for his decision.

This is a landmark decision by the Planning Inspectorate.  The decision to refuse the appeal is based on cumulative impact and it does seem that, in this case, the Inspector finally paid some attention to the many letters of objection submitted by local residents.  This has so often not happened.  We hope that this is the sign of a more democratic attitude on the part of the Inspectorate because it is likely that many more Cumbrian cases will arrive there in the near future.  This is an important year for us all!
