The application was approved by council on 23/10/15 despite objections and concerns being expressed by local residents. The council seems to have taken the view that because users of the riding centre were backing it they constituted local 'community' even though they didn't live near the construction. It was up and turning by December, clearly visible from local roads, the M6 and further afield.

Despite an appeal being dismissed at this site over a year ago a further application has been submitted 10m lower to tip and positioned slightly further south. For more details and to comment or object see

Note the owners applied to remove the hedge at the edge of this field earlier this year "to improve the cross country course" but permission was not granted because The hedgerow qualifies as "important" by virtue of The Hedgerow Regulations 1997. It is recorded on the Wreay tithe map 1839.

The appeal was dismissed by the Inspector on 25/6/14. He found that the benefits of the proposal did not outweigh the harm to the character and appearance of the local landscape. For full details see Decision notice

This application is for a 77m turbine at the Greenlands Equestrian Centre near Wreay very close to the Bankdale and High Burnthwaite sites. It would be very visible from the M6 and was refused permission by Carlisle planners under delegated powers 13/0639 in November 2013. However this decision was appealed in January 2014.
