A note on the technology

Cumbria Wind Watch is based on the same software as Wikipedia. It is not necessary to learn very much in order to be able to update it, but if you would like to learn more, visit Wikipedia's own instruction pages - anything you learn there will be applicable at CWW.

Using the page editor

It is recommended that you read the page on using the editor if you have not already done so.

How to add or edit a wind farm page

If you have been granted permission to edit the site, you can go to the Add Information menu and click 'Add a Wind Farm'. This will bring up a form which you can use to specify the number and power of turbines, the company proposing, the location and other details. If you want to change this information afterwards you can click on the 'Edit the Data' link at the bottom of the page.

At the end of the page you will be able to add as much extra information as you want. You can use this to record meetings, keep track of your campaign, and even store documents. To update this information you can click 'Edit the Main Text' at the bottom of the page.

How to upload a picture

To include a picture you must first upload it to the website.

To do this go to the bottom of the screen, where there is a grey bar. In that bar is the text 'Upload file'. Click on it to begin.

On the following page you will be able to choose your file. Then scroll down to the bottom where there is a button marked 'upload file'.

If everything goes well you should be presented with a screen like this:

Uploading.jpg

To include the image in your page, open the page for editing.

Select the image button from the toolbar (a mountain with the sun above it) and type the name of  the image. It will be automatically found on the site - then you can click OK to insert it.

How to upload a PDF

PDFs may be uploaded in exactly the same way.

To put a link to a PDF in your page, see the image above. The black box is over a link to the uploaded PDF. If you right-click (Cmd-click on a Mac) and select 'Copy Link Address...', you can use this link in your page.
